Laser Cutting Machine Cooling System Maintenance Guide
When the laser tube emits laser light, it also generates a large amount of heat. If this heat is not removed in time, the high temperature may cause the laser tube to become damaged or even rupture. For this reason, the laser tube is usually designed with two layers: one layer filled with carbon dioxide gas, and the other layer equipped with a water channel for cooling.
During laser emission, the cooling water must circulate continuously. If the water inside the laser tube stops circulating while the machine is working, the water temperature will rise rapidly, and the laser tube may be directly damaged. Therefore, the cooling system is very important for the normal operation of a laser cutting machine.
1. Laser Tube Cooling Principle
The laser tube relies on circulating water to take away heat generated during operation. The water flows through the water channel around the laser tube and carries away excess heat, keeping the tube within a safe working temperature range.
If the water circulation is abnormal, the heat cannot be dissipated in time, and the temperature of the laser tube will continue to rise. In severe cases, the laser tube may burn out, crack or lose stability.
2. Water Tank Installation Requirements
The water tank is an important part of the laser cutting machine cooling system. When installing the water tank, the following requirements should be noted:
- The water tank should be placed in a flat and stable position.
- If necessary, install pipe supports and expansion joints.
- Welded pipes should be equipped with flexible joints to adapt to expansion and contraction.

3. Stainless Steel Water Tank Maintenance
Cylindrical stainless steel water tanks should be handled carefully. If the surface is dented, scratched or improperly maintained, rust may appear over time.
It is recommended to clean and maintain the stainless steel water tank at least twice a year. If possible, water purification equipment can be installed inside the water tank to improve water quality and reduce scale and impurities.
When cleaning the water tank:

4. Tripod and Support Structure Maintenance
The water tank tripod should be placed on a flat, firm surface and fixed with screws or cement if necessary. It is recommended to install the water tank near the wall for easier maintenance.
A protective net should be installed around the tripod to prevent rust accumulation, wind damage or accidental collision.
The tripod needs regular inspection and maintenance:
- Check for rust, deformation or loose connections.
- If rust is found, perform anti-rust treatment in time.
- If the structure is seriously damaged, replace the relevant parts immediately.
5. Causes of Abnormal Water Circulation
If the circulating water of the laser cutting machine flows too fast, is unstable or does not work properly, the problem may be caused by the following reasons:
- The ambient temperature around the laser cutting machine is too high.
- The laser working intensity is set too high.
- The laser cutting machine has been working continuously for too long.
- The cooling water outlet is blocked or not flowing smoothly.
- The water pump inlet and outlet pipes are dirty, causing poor water flow.
- The submersible pump has abnormal water output or water pressure.
When abnormal water circulation occurs, the machine should be stopped in time for inspection. Continuing to operate without cooling water may cause serious damage to the laser tube.
6. Water Protection Function
Most laser cutting machines are equipped with a water protection function. Normally, the laser can only emit light when the water tank and water circulation system are working properly.
If the water tank fails, the water pump does not supply water, or the water flow is abnormal, the system should prevent the laser tube from emitting light. This protection mechanism helps avoid laser tube damage caused by insufficient cooling.
